Growing up Tisha has always been an athlete. Unfortunately, her family and friends would always tease her about her small frame and physique, until one day she decided that enough was enough. She trained hard for years, went to College and educated herself and became a Personal Trainer. She has been a PT now for 5+ years. Tisha has learned to love herself and the changes that her body has made throughout this process. Her transformation was not just physical, but mental and spiritual as well.
INTERVIEW WITH TISHA
What industry do you work in?
Fitness Industry
How and when did you get started in fitness? Tell us about your journey.
I got started in fitness when I was in my late 20’s. My family would always tell me how small and malnourished I was looking, and I was just sick and tired of hearing that....so I decided to hit the gym and put on some weight and a decent amount of muscle mass. After years of training, I decided to go to college and learn more about health and fitness. Years later, I am now a Certified Personal Trainer.
What are some of your accomplishments in fitness/sports?
I am proud to say that I entered in my first fitness competition November 2019. I managed to coach myself and tweak my diet to become stage ready for my competition and winning a gold medal in my category (Figure Competitor).
How many days a week do you train?
I train 4 to 5 times a week.
Do you follow a specific workout plan or training style?
Not really. I go to the gym and i work on the muscle group(s) I’m working on staying between my 8 - 15 rep range depending on my goals.
What are your long and short term goals?
My long term goal is to have a successful online coaching business as well as a fitness retreat. My short term goal is is to put together and launch my online fitness program(s).
What is your favourite body part or the one you are most proud of and why?
My Favourite body part to train and that i am extremely proud of is my back. I have been training my back more often than not...especially for my “stage ready” physique it is one of the main parts of the body that they judge you on. I am uber proud.
How often do you work on your legs?
Now this is a body part that i don’t train as often as i should. I train them maybe 2x a week, but i believe i need to train them at least 4x a week to build my legs.
What do you need to work on the most?
Legs and core.
Team Eat Clean or Team IIFIYM?
I do a bit of both. It really just depends on what my goals are.
What are your favourite meals?
Oxtail w/ rice and peas, spaghetti and meatballs, and grilled salmon w/ rice and steamed veggies. I could go on...lol.
Do you have cheat meals? What are some of your favorite ones?
I don’t have “cheat meals” per say, but my favourite sweet treats are cake and ice cream.
What supplements do you take if any?
I take protein powder, pre-workout and multi-vitamins
What is the one supplement you would recommend for building muscle?
For building muscle I would suggest an increased amount of protein, but sometimes its hard to get in the required amount of protein...so its good to have a protein powder on hand.
What is the one supplement you would recommend for when cutting?
When cutting (calorie deficit) you tend to also deplete your body of all its nutrients, so when supplementing i would suggest your multi-vitamins.
When eating out, do you go for a tasty or healthy meal?
When eating out I go for what i feel for at that time. However, if I was prepping for a show I would have no choice but to keep it clean.
What is the most challenging part of your journey?
The most challenging part of my journey is staying on track with my core workouts.
What have you learned about yourself and others along your journey?
I learned that anything is possible. If you want it bad enough, you will do anything...or you CAN do anything to make it happen. It’s not easy, but it is DEFINITELY possible.
What motivates you?
Seeing the changes in my body every week motivates me to keep on going.
Who inspires you?
My boyfriend inspires me and I inspire me. Just knowing where we both came from in the fitness world to where we are today inspires me to keep on pushing and believing that i can go further.
What are some of your favourite quote(s)?
“You don’t have to be an athlete to train like one.”
Tell us about your support system?
My boyfriend is my support system. Other than the fact that we are business partners, he pushes me to be my best self even when i go through moments when i don’t think that I’m good enough.
Do you find it challenging to have a social life?
No....not at all.
What hobbies do you have outside of fitness/sports?
Baking, diy skin care and taking in the city.
What advice do you have for people looking to get into shape?
Think about your “why.” Your why should be what pushes you into that direction to get into shape and your motivation should keep you there and push you even further.
